The Château is named after Ausone, a 4th century Latin poet noted for his love of wine, who is said to have lived in Saint-Emilion. Located on the southern ramparts of Saint-Emilion, this 7-hectare vineyard produces 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot grape varieties. Most of the vines are over fifty years old and produce very small yields. The vines have been worked according to organic farming techniques for many decades. 1er Grand Cru Classé A since 1955, with an exceptional terroir, Château Ausone produces one of the world’s greatest Saint-Emilion wines. The greatest vintages, including that of 1989, have a phenomenal ageing potential (50 years, or even more for the very best years).
